Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to 'plead guilty'

Prosecutors have filed new charging documents against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, signaling he may plead guilty ahead of a second trial next week.

According to the court filing, the charge of conspiracy against the United States includes money laundering, tax fraud, failing to disclose foreign bank accounts, and acting as an unregistered lobbyist for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine.

A pre-trial conference scheduled in federal court in Washington, D.C., for 11 a.m. ET Friday was just changed on the Manafort case docket to an arraignment and plea agreement hearing, the most concrete confirmation of a plea agreement, after days of speculation and reporting based on unnamed sources.

That is only an estimate, however, since they did not study how each individual died, although they hope to conduct that study in the future.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort stands in a court room sketch, on the opening day of his trial on charges stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation in Alexandria, Va., on July 31, 2018.

"I had hoped and expected my business colleague would have had the strength to continue the battle to prove our innocence", Manafort said after the Gates plea deal earlier this year.

Manafort had denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. Manafort and Mueller had also been in plea talks while the jury was in deliberations during his Virginia trial, but those negotiations had fallen through. The second count, for conspiracy to obstruct justice, relates to attempts to tamper with witnesses related to his foreign lobbying.

The decision by Trump's onetime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, to plead guilty last month in a federal investigation in Manhattan particularly angered the president, who denounced him as a "flipper".

Manafort joined the Trump campaign in late March of 2016, and ascended to chairman before leaving in August as revelations emerged about his previous consulting work in the Ukraine. Gates may have been a prosecution witness in his Washington trial as well. So far, Manafort has refused to turn on his former boss - unlike other Trump administration figures - and there has been speculation that he is waiting on a pardon from the president at some later date.

The developments were first reported by ABC News, which said details of the deal would be announced in court on Friday.
