Tottenham boss Pochettino: Lloris remains captain

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been fined 50,000 pounds (65,000 United States dollars) and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading to driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Lloris, who guided France to the World Cup crown in Russian Federation this summer, was charged with drink driving following a night out with his France team-mates Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny in central London last month.

When police stopped the vehicle, they discovered vomit and said Lloris had to be helped from the auto.

Yet Lloris, who is out of Saturday's clash at home against Liverpool and will miss several weeks with a thigh strain, remains the Tottenham captain. "The last two weeks were fantastic for him".

Dele Alli will also miss out tomorrow because of a hamstring injury he suffered playing for England last week, but Heung-min Son will be available again after his lengthy stint on worldwide duty with South Korea.

All that happened yesterday (in court) is not good and he does not feel great. He said he is guilty of this situation and is responsible.

'He is punishing himself. He made a mistake and he's suffered the punishment of society. It is a massive lesson for everyone. We can all make mistakes. Only we need to try, how he understands that it was a mistake.

"Like a man that he is, he's going to pay and accept everything".

"He said "Gaffer it's a massive lesson for me".

"First of all I want to congratulate him, because it's such an important victory to avoid the military service", Pochettino said. Of course all the people can make a mistake. He was lucky there was no outcome.

For Pochettino, it is the latest in a series of complications at the beginning of this campaign.

"I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters", Lloris had earlier said.

A report emerged on Thursday suggesting Tottenham may not move in to their new stadium until March due to an issue with the ground's sprinkler system.

"I am disappointed", Pochettino added.

"He is a man and he is very conscious about what happened, and of course you can not remove it, but he has the capacity to move on, learn and be focused on playing football", said Pochettino.

"He [Alli] suffered a small injury after 20 minutes of the game against Spain at Wembley", Pochettino said.

Son gives Spurs another option in attack, while Pochettino defended Harry Kane, whose form has been criticised in a start to the season when the World Cup Golden Boot victor has seemed to lack sharpness.

"The most thing here is the confidence and trust we have in him". Lloris was one of the heroes of France's commanding march to their second football World Cup in 20 years. It is only a matter of time before he shows his real quality.
