United States of America imposed new sanctions against Russian companies

Washington, Sep 14 (IANS): The US has imposed sanctions on two North Korean-controlled information technology (IT) companies based in China and Russian Federation, accusing them of moving illicit funds to Pyongyang, the media reported.

Haley said the panel should release the original report, which cited "a massive increase in illicit ship-to-ship transfers of petroleum products" for North Korea in violation of United Nations sanctions. "Period", Haley said in a statement.

Russian Federation at the end of August had blocked publication of the report on the implementation of sanctions against North Korea because it disagreed with findings that Pyongyang had exceeded a 2018 import cap for oil set by the sanctions imposed previous year, a diplomatic source said last month.

Haley said Russian interference "sets an unacceptable precedent that damages the sanctity of the United Nations independent panel reporting process".

About 9,700 National Guard troops and civilians have been deployed, with high-water vehicles, helicopters and boats. A tropical storm warning is in effect for north of Duck, NC, to the North Carolina/Virginia border.

The Treasury also said the China-based company was linked to the North Korean government's defense research and ballistic missile programs.

Amid such reporting, President Trump has suggested repeatedly, in interviews and via twitter, that China has been relaxing its enforcement of sanctions enacted before his summit with Kim.

The new sanctions target Russian-based Volasys Silver Star and China-based Yanbian Silverstar Network Technology Co, the U.S. Treasury Department said on its website.

Haley has called for the original report to be released by the 15-member Security Council, which must agree by consensus on whether to publish the findings.

"This is a risky precedent and a stain on the important work of the panel", Haley said, calling for the initial version of the report - dating from early August - to be published.

The Russian news agency TASS quoted Russia's U.N. Mission as saying the proposed sanctions were "unjustified".

The designations are the latest effort by the Donald Trump administration to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang to fully and completely denuclearize.

The dispute between Russian Federation and the United States as well as Western and other Security Council members has delayed the official release of the six-month report by the expert panel monitoring sanctions against North Korea.
