But for residents of a town in Greece, it's a spooky reality.

The video, posted on YouTube by Giannis Giannakopoulos, shows a beach in the town of Aitoliko covered in webs almost 300m long. It was all spun by arachnids known as "stretch spiders".

According to CNN, the phenomenon of spider infestation is rare, but not unheard of.

Archaeologists may have found Captain Cook's Endeavour
Cook departed Plymouth in August 1768, travelling through the Pacific Islands before arriving in New Zealand in September 1769. The vessel later was renamed the Lord Sandwich and had a less impressive role as a British transport ship.

Greek biologist Fotis Pergantis, president of the Messolonghi National Lagoon Park, said there's a simple explanation.

"It's natural for this area to have insects, no one is especially anxious", said Giannis, who captured the now-viral images, to CNN.

According to British newspaper The Guardian, Prof Chatzaki said: "The spiders are taking advantage of these conditions, and are having a kind of a party".

Kavanaugh accuser demands FBI probe before testifying
The president said he was "totally supporting" Kavanaugh and rejected calls for the FBI to investigate the accusation. Former classmate Jenny Yerrick Martin said she knew Ford from seventh to ninth grades when they both attended Holton.

While the giant spider-web in Aitoliko, Greece, might look freaky, the phenomenon is not at all harmful for humans, animals in the region, or the local flora.

But this particular spider-web is one of the largest ever witnessed and, as the local scientists admitted, the increased number of mosquitoes led to the appearance of more Tetragnatha spiders. They thrive in hot, humid temperatures and continue to reproduce during that time.

The spiders are not a danger to humans, the report said. Though those with phobias may find the sudden presence frightening, experts say these spiders aren't unsafe to humans and were likely just taking advantage of favorable mating conditions. But Aitoliko residents will need to do a lot of dusting.
