Archaeologists may have found Captain Cook's Endeavour

A team from the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) believe that they have found the wreck of the HMB Endeavour, the famous ship that carried Capt. James Cook on his voyage of discovery to Australia and New Zealand.

Peter Dexler, chair of the Australian National Maritime Museum, will attend the event unveiling the location on Friday, along with Australian consul general Alaistair Walton, according to CNN affiliate 9 News. But Newport, Rhode Island, was still held by Americans. The team has found what appear to be 10 of the 13 transport ships, Abbass said earlier this year at the organization's annual meeting.

Australian and USA experts believe they may have found the wreck in Newport Harbour on America's east coast, 25 years after beginning their search for the former British Royal Navy vessel.

Cook departed Plymouth in August 1768, travelling through the Pacific Islands before arriving in New Zealand in September 1769.

This year marks the 250th anniversary of Cook's departure from England on the Endeavour.

One of the most fascinating and long-standing marine mysteries is the fate of Captain James Cook's exploratory vessel- the HMS Endeavour. "It is exciting. We are closing in".

The Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project says it's pinpointed the final resting place of the Endeavour, which explorer Cook helmed on a voyage from the United Kingdom to reach Australia for the first time in 1770, the Sydney Morning Herald reported Wednesday.

Cook was the first European to land on the east coast of Australia and claimed it for Britain.

Are the Cavs monitoring the Jimmy Butler situation?
With that being said , here are three trade packages that the LA Clippers should consider in order to bring Butler into the fold. If they keep Butler for the entirety of this season, they may still find themselves outside of the playoff picture.

The vessel later was renamed the Lord Sandwich and had a less impressive role as a British transport ship. It is the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project's hope that the vessel might be excavated next year, in time for the 250th anniversary of Capt. Cook's landing at Botany Bay.

The Endeavour landed in Australia on April 29, 1770, two years after Cook set sail on a secret mission in search of the "Unknown Southern Land"-Terra Australis Incognita. This is a vessel that is significant to people around the world, including Australia".

On Sept. 18, RIMAP said it had "identified a possible site in Newport harbor that might be the Lord Sandwich ex Endeavour", noting that "detailed work must begin to prove it".

The public is being asked to donate to RIMAP to help finance an artefact management facility needed to process, store, and display the artefacts that will emerge from the planned 2019 excavation.
