Doctor Who: Fans hail Jodie Whitaker in female Doctor's first appearance

The Woman Who Fell To Earth, a new episode of the BBC science fiction drama, has just aired in the United Kingdom, introducing audiences to Whittaker as the 13th Doctor, a role she claimed in July previous year amid increasing calls for it to go to a woman. Like the behind the scenes crew, we learn that each of our new Compani- wait, sorry, we're calling them "Friends", now; new era and all that- are struggling to find their footing.

So, we chatted with Jodie Whittaker, the 13th Doctor herself about the new role, about the fandom, and all things Doctor Who. It is way too early to gauge where Whittaker fits in the pantheon of Doctors, but her hyperactive, clever and amusing performance brought to mind a greatest hits package of Christopher Ecclestone (the Ninth Doctor) and David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor), with less of the darkness that has been favoured of late.

The Doctor's gender was not the only thing that felt new. I appreciate that the show went beyond the typical beat of immediately moving beyond a character's death, and I suspect the grief of her death will be a continuing character development as the season continues.

Canelo Alvarez to challenge Rocky Fielding at super middleweight
Fielding won the title when he defeated Tyron Zeyge by 5th round TKO in July and lands a massive pay day for his first defence. Alvarez became the No. 1 middleweight on the planet when he outpointed Gennady Golovkin to claim the WBA and WBC titles.

Also on the cast, The Doctor will have three companions with her - Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill, who will play Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan.

Doctor Who continues Sunday at 6.55pm on BBC One.

Now, I know that nothing's ever universally loved, so I've genuinely tried to find some less positive reactions, but I can't find anything too venomous at all. But ultimately that didn't give us more information than we got a few scenes later directly from our monster, "Tim Shaw", whom I was totally about to call the Tooth Fairy until the show gave us that even more delightfully deflating name. "(And I've rarely had a hard time with accents)". Are you excited to see where Whittaker and Chibnall take the story next?

As for the titular character, she comes crashing through the ceiling of a train under attack by an alien force at the start of the first episode, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth". New fans have a solid entry point to begin this addicting journey.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall underscored at Comic Con that Dr. Within minutes, Whittaker "made it clear that yes, being a woman suits the Doctor just fine", noted Variety. The best is yet to come for the Thirteenth Doctor, and that's how it should be.
