Nikki Haley -- sad day -- resigns from United Nations role

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump's Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has resigned from her post.

President Trump met with Haley in the Oval Office to discuss her departure.

In a joint appearance with President Trump at the White House, Haley said she was leaving simply because it was time to go and it was important for government officials to know when to step aside.

"She's done a fantastic job and we've done a fantastic job together".

"I think if you look at the anti-Israel bias and the strength that the president showed on the embassy; we will put the embassy where we want to put the embassy". He held a press conference inside the Oval Office and spoke about her in glowing terms, declaring she was "special to me", and even raised the possibility she may rejoin the Administration later "in a different capacity".

NK leader expresses belief in 'good program' for 2nd summit with Trump
While Kim's actions since have fallen short of Washington's demands, the Trump administration is preparing for a second summit. So if President Trump is going to strike a deal with North Korea, this is when he's going to get the best terms.

In a January 2016 response to then-President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, she warned against following "the siren call of the angriest voices", a clear rebuke of Trump.

A former governor of SC who is the daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley is seen as a rising star in the Republican Party and a possible candidate in the 2020 presidential election.

"I don't have anything set on where I'm going to go", Mrs Haley said.

Haley said she would remain in her post until the end of the year.

"We are a better country because they are in this administration", Haley enthused. "We've solved a lot of problems and we're in the process of solving a lot of problems", he said.

Wife of Israeli prime minister goes on trial for fraud
In one case, the prime minister is suspected of accepting lavish gifts from a pair of billionaire friends. Previously, the Prime Minister's wife has been accused of abusive behaviour and over-the-top spending.

Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Haley's leaving is "yet another sign of the Trump administration's chaotic foreign policy and setback from promoting American values and priorities".

"Well, I had a personal conversation with the president about Charlottesville, and I will leave it at that", Haley told CNN's Dana Bash at the time.

However, a source familiar with the situation told CNN that Haley notified Trump about her decision last week and did not tell Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or White House national security adviser John Bolton. After running for the SC legislature in 2004, Haley, who is married to U.S National Guard office, became only the second Indian-American government of a U.S state (after Bobby Jindal) in 2010.

CNN has referred to her as "the breakout star" of Trump's cabinet. Haley reported the flights on her 2017 public financial disclosure statement, saying the donors all were personal friends, and therefore exempt from federal rules on accepting such flights.
