Floods kill at least ten on the Spanish island of Mallorca

At least ten people have died and it's thought that one child is still missing following a series of devastating floods which swept across the holiday island of Mallorca, in Spain's Balearic Islands.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal, who is from the affected area in Majorca, said on Instagram he was offering to open up his sports centre and tennis academy to people made homeless by the floods.

Spain's meteorological office said the neighbouring islands of Ibiza and Formentera were now on high alert as the rain and storms moved there.

Two Britons are said to be among at least five people killed as flash floods hit the Spanish island of Majorca overnight, emergency services said.

"What is most urgent right now is to find missing people and address the concerns of their relatives and all neighbours", Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said during a visit to the disaster zone. "We had to swim to try to survive".

At least three towns closed schools and hundreds of people were sheltered in sport facilities and a local horse racing track.

"It all happened in less than 10 minutes", a witness told Spanish TV. Streets in towns near Malaga on the Costa del Sol experienced flood water which was several feet deep.
