Governor Slams GOP, 'Proud Boys' After NYC Brawl

The brawl happened after Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes spoke at the Metropolitan Republican Club in the Upper East Side, which had been vandalized prior to his appearance, the New York Post reports. The officer did not attempt to arrest any of the Proud Boys.

At one point in the surveillance video, a group of people is seen throwing people they confronted to the ground before punching and kicking them. No serious injuries were reported.

After a brutal brawl that broke out when left-wing Antifa members "intercept [ed]" a group of right-wing "Proud Boys" in Manhattan Friday night, police say they are looking for a total of twelve people caught on video resorting to violence, including three Antifa and nine Proud Boys.

Proud Boys describes itself as a "pro-Western fraternal organization".

Several elected officials expressed outrage over the violence and blamed the Proud Boys, which has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Police are considering hate crime charges against supporters of a white nationalist group who were filmed attacking people and shouting homophobic slurs.

NYPD is only now seeking further information about those involved in the attack. Police did not say which group started the altercation, but members of both groups were reluctant to talk with police about the incidents.

The Democratic governor said he had directed the state police to assist the NYPD in the probe.
