Tracking the Tropics: Oscar forms, could become a hurricane

Hurricane Oscar is now the eighth hurricane in the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say a low-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean has a 70 percent chance to form into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday morning that Oscar was centered about 815 miles (1,310 kilometers) east-southeast of Bermuda, and it was moving west at 12 mph (19 kph). The hurricane is forecast to accelerate toward the north-northeast or northeast during the next couple of days.

The storm had top sustained winds of 65 miles per hour. The minimum central pressure has dropped to 989 mb.
