Rebel Wilson responds to backlash over 'plus-sized' claims

People quickly took to Twitter to make sure that Wilson was aware of the works of Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique, two plus-sized Black women who starred in romantic comedies over a decade ago.

I love @RebelWilson as much as the next girl, but she isn't the first plus sized woman to play the lead in a romantic comedy.

The 38-year-old Australian actress will star in the upcoming film, Isn't It Romantic, about a New Yorker who bumps her head and wakes up in a world characterized by romantic-comedy clichés and jokes.

Mashable also reported that Wilson began blocking critics on Twitter, specifically critics of color. "Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique have both played rom-com leads".

He has been in solitary confinement in a high-security NY prison since Mexico extradited him to the United States in January 2017. He was arrested again by Mexican marines in February 2014 but escaped 14 months later before being re-captured in January 2016.

First, it is clear from a quick Google search that Wilson's original statement wasn't true - did she do any research at all?

"Let's please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities", the Oscar victor wrote, urging Rebel to "take a moment and know the history" and avoid being "a part of erasing it".

'Take a moment and know the history. "I wish you the best", Mo'Nique tweeted.

Still, Wilson stood her ground amid the backlash, insisting on Twitter there were some "grey areas and technicalities" around what constitutes a rom-com, and proceeded to block critics on Twitter who said otherwise. "So there's a slight grey area", Wilson tweeted. There were even people creating hashtags like #RebelWilsonBlockedMe and #RebelBlockMeParty to commemorate being blocked by the actress.
