Dead brothel owner elected to legislative seat

Dennis Hof, owner of the Nevada Love Ranch brothel, won the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District, despite dying a month ago while celebrating his 72nd birthday.

According to the Associated Press, Hoff then beat Democratic educator Lesia Romanov on November 6 in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District.

Nevada's 36th Assembly District sits in the southern portion of the state, and includes portions of Nye, Lincoln and of Clark counties.

Signs were posted at polling places to inform voters in the district that Hof had died, but Republicans launched a campaign encouraging people to still vote for him and prevent the seat from falling into Democratic hands. Officials are still determining his cause of death, but they don't suspect foul play.

"They will feel much more comfortable casting the ballot for him knowing there will be another Republican to replace him".

Brothels operate legally in seven rural Nevada counties.

Hof was accused of sexual assault at least four times, most recently in September. He denied the claims.

Hof died at his Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada, on October 16 shortly after having sex with prostitute Dasha Dare.

Hof died in the same Love Ranch suite where Lamar Odom, the former National Basketball Association player and ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, overdosed in October 2015, the New Yorker report said.

The budding politician was found deceased after a rally with porn star Ron Jeremy and Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Odom entered a coma but survived.

Hof gained his claim-to-fame by owning several brothels in Nevada, the only state where prostitution is legal. He had nicknamed himself the "Trump from Pahrump", after the town where he lived in Nevada.

Dennis Hof died last month after fashioning himself as a Donald Trump-style Republican candidate.

In the end, he won in a complete landslide, taking around 70% of the vote.
