World’s first AI news anchor goes on air

The world's first Artificial Intelligence TV news anchor resembles a male human anchor and has the voice and facial expressions of a real person.

China's state-run Xinhua News Agency unveiled a deeply creepy artificial intelligence news anchor on Wednesday at the government's World Internet Conference tech expo. He can work for 24 hours continuously on the news website as well as its social media platform. The AI TV anchor is also said to improve efficiency as it can quickly generate breaking news.

"Hello, you are watching English news programme", says the English-speaking presenter at the start of his first report.

Xinhua News claims the presenter "can read texts as naturally as a professional news anchor", though not everyone may agree.

Sogou, a Chinese search engine, was involved in the system's development.

Meanwhile, the internal game studio Luminous Productions that was originally working on the DLC will focus on AAA titles going forward.

The anchor takes advantage of AI technology to combine images and voices of human anchors to deliver news with "the same effect" as human anchors.

In April this year, BuzzFeed created an eerily convincing video of former US President Barack Obama appearing to speak against Donald Trump.

"I look forward to bringing you the brand new news experiences".

News editors need to only input a text into the AI Synthetic Anchor system and the AI composite anchor will do the rest.

But in the face of this possible reality, he admits the public may not buy into it wholeheartedly.

Xiaomi Mi AirDots true wireless earbuds are affordable, out of reach
However, their sale will begin starting November 11 through Xiaomi Mall , Xiaomi Youpin, Tmall, Jingdong, and Suning. The Xiaomi AirDots also have touch controls on the side of the buds and come with the now standard charging case.

A more immediately worrying aspect is that virtual news readers could be yet another step down the route of delivering fake news and propaganda.

"We'll probably keep that although you can see the financial advantages to replacing those very expensive newsreaders with AI robots that never sleep and never require wages".

Elsewhere, the technology is making its presence felt across several professions, from medicine to transport.

This is different from using a 3D digital model of a human.
