Khashoggi murder: Turkey orders arrest of senior Saudi officials

Six top USA senators from across party lines have introduced a scathing resolution to hold the Saudi crown prince accountable for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi more than two months ago.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said there is "zero chance" the crown prince wasn't involved in Khashoggi's death.

Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution calling for an end to USA military aid in the Saudi-led war in Yemen which has found new support in the wave of attention to Khashoggi's death.

Bin Salman has denied any knowledge of the plot to torture, murder and dismember Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Turkey in October and the US has waffled on whether it believes his denials.

Istanbul's chief prosecutor has filed warrants for the arrest of a top aide to Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler and the deputy head of its foreign intelligence on suspicion of planning the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, two Turkish officials said yesterday. "I think there's a lot of interest in trying to push aside amendments to get to the final vote as quickly as possible on our side of the aisle, and you know, all we need is a little support from Republicans".

Skepticism mounted Tuesday about President Trump's impromptu trade agreement with the president of China, as Mr. Trump applauded the news in a tweet. "It will always be the best way to max out our economic power", he said.

However, a USA official told NBC that Khalid is not expected to be expelled from the country and would continue on as ambassador.

U.S. senators say they are more certain than ever after a private Central Intelligence Agency briefing that the Saudi crown prince had a role in the murder of a journalist.

He also said: "There's not a smoking gun, there's a smoking saw".

"But at the same time, it's sort of hard to call this a cover up given the fact that everybody in that briefing last week knew that Pompeo and Mattis were misleading us, knew there was no way this murder happened without the consent and direction of MBS".

Asked whether that was a realistic proposition, he added that it was "possible", but that realistic was "maybe too strong a word". It has previously attracted the interest of Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners, which tabled a £300m bid late previous year .

In a surprising turn of events, the GOP is actually turning on Trump over his (lack of a) position on Jamal Khashoggi's killing.

Saudi Arabia has already detained 21 people and says it is seeking the death penalty for five. Bernie Sanders' (I-Vt.) resolution to end USA military support for the Saudi kingdom's assault on Yemen.

Last week, the administration sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary James Mattis to brief the Senate, but Graham and other senators expressed outrage that they were not hearing directly from Haspel, as the CIA's assessment had been liberally leaked to the media. "I would really question someone's judgment if they couldn't figure this out". "Guilty. A guilty verdict", Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters after the briefing. If it advances beyond that, senators have an opportunity to debate and add amendments to the resolution before a final vote.

But, Stewart said, the United States has to continue relationships with those countries.
