Trump Announces Bill Barr As His Attorney General Pick

Barr is now an attorney for Kirkland and Ellis, a high-profile Washington, D.C., law firm.

"I've seen very good things about him even over the last day or so, when people thought it might be Bill Barr [as the nominee]", the president said. He predicted the process will go "very quickly".

The president also confirmed reports that he plans to nominate State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to be the next USA ambassador to the United Nations, filling the spot of Nikki Haley, who will step down at the end of the year. The president said Ms. Nauert, a former Fox News personality, has been doing "a great job" as State Department spokeswoman since the beginning of his administration.

"I think it is quite understandable that the administration would not want an Federal Bureau of Investigation director who did not recognize established limits on his powers", Barr wrote in a Washington Post op-ed in May 2017.

US, South Korea to hold talks on North's denuclearization
Trump lashed out at the New York Times , calling the newspaper's report about North Korea's missile bases "fake news". Trump said on Saturday that he hoped to organise a second summit with Kim in early 2019.

"I would hope (Trump) would pick someone who would be by the book and not by the politics", Feinstein said. He was nominated for a second term as chairman by Mr. Trump in May 2017 and approved by the Senate in September 2017.

In 2016, former US Attorney General William Barr supported Donald Trump's nominee, Jeff Sessions, for the post Barr once held.

This, of course, is no normal time - and it didn't take long for interested parties to scour Mr Barr's recent comments and writings in search of any meaningful hints on how he would oversee Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

Still, while in private practice, Barr has occasionally weighed in on hot-button investigative matters in ways that could prompt concerns among Democrats. Since Sessions was forced to resign from the top cabinet position shortly after the midterm elections, the role has been filled by acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, whose temporary appointment has been met with criticism.

The Trump Organization, which owns the golf course, did not comment specifically on Ms.[Victorina] Morales or Ms.[Sandra] Diaz. Still, she said she got by with falsified documents and a knack for cleaning according to Trump's highly specific standards.

Mr. Whitaker is traveling with the president on Air Force One Friday to attend Mr. Trump's speech at a Justice Department conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

Democrats would presumably want reassurances that Barr, who as attorney general would be in position to oversee Mueller's investigation, would not do anything to interfere with the probe. Bush, who died last week at age 94.

The White House is hopeful that Barr's experience, which also includes a stints at the Central Intelligence Agency and in the Reagan administration, will help steer his nomination past the Senate.

"The attorney general's oath to uphold the Constitution raises the question whether his duty lies ultimately with the president who appointed him or more abstractly with the rule of law", I said in my confirmation hearings, and have said several times since, that the attorney general's ultimate allegiance must be to the rule of law".
