For many, the start of the new year signals the start of a new diet.

If you've ever been confused about what to eat, you're definitely not alone.

The diet, named for the region that includes Norway, Iceland, Finland, Denmark and Sweden, is an example of a growing interest in diets followed by some of the healthiest people in the world, according to Angela Haupt, assistant managing editor of health at U.S. News and World Report. It's hard to know for sure, but recently, a panel of health experts debated the topic for U.S. News and ranked 41 different diets. While meat isn't seen too often in Mediterranean diet meals, fish is a staple, taking advantage of the healthy fats like omega-3's.

Although the popular Keto diet ranked high for fast weight loss, it landed way down on the Best Diets list - tying for number 38. The plan also involves in-person meetings or online chats created to support those in the program and keep them accountable.
