Hyundai unveils walking concept vehicle

LAS VEGAS-When it reaches rough terrain or even just a set of stairs, Hyundai's latest concept vehicle can stand up and walk. It's created to reach areas affected by a natural disaster immediately after it has struck in order to save as many lives as possible.

Furthermore, the legs can fold up into a stowed drive mode, where power to the joints is cut, allowing the Elevate to drive at highway speeds.

Hyundai sees this capability as useful in multiple situations, but perhaps most importantly as a first responder vehicle in situations such as forest fires, earthquakes, hurricanes or floods.

Dozens killed in Afghan gold mine collapse
The conflict has seen the rise in illegal mining both by villagers and Taliban fighters who use it as a key source of revenue. The impoverished region is prone to landslides, particularly in the colder months when heavy snow blankets the province.

Each wheel is powered by an electric motor, and they can be braked to work as feet as the vehicle walks either like a reptile or mammal, depending on the situation. The design is uniquely capable of both mammalian and reptilian walking gaits, as shown in the video.

The Elevate concept is based on Hyundai's new E-GMP modular electric auto platform and has the capability to switch out different bodies for specific situations.

"There may well be applications in terms of emergency services - but there are very big technological challenges to make this sort of thing". The Hyudai Elevate, as described by the company, blends technology found in electric cars and robots that allows it to traverse terrain beyond the limitations of even the most capable off-road vehicle. "Elevate can drive to the scene and climb right over flood debris or crumbled concrete". This allows Elevate to drive at highway speeds just like any other vehicle.

All eyes are on Brie Larson if she can amp up the already incredibly amped Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain Marvel . Then they dropped an "exclusive look" in the middle of the College Football National Championship game.

Elevate can climb a five-foot (1.52-meter) wall, step over a five-foot gap, walk over diverse terrain, and achieve a 15-foot (4.57-m) wide track width. Yes, that's exactly what Hyundai has proposed with its Elevate concept unveiled Tuesday at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. "Imagine a auto stranded in a snow ditch just 10 feet off the highway being able to walk or climb over the treacherous terrain, back to the road potentially saving its injured passengers - this is the future of vehicular mobility".

We might not see Elevate attending to natural disasters or roaming the streets imminently, but it's not just for show; Hyundai has been working on the concept with industrial design consultancy Sundberg-Ferar for nearly three years.

China also played a role in Trump's meeting with Kim, lending the North Korean leader an airliner for his trip to Singapore. If it is Kim Jong-un, it's nearly certain he's there to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for a fourth time.
