When a female police officer was appointed as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's chief bodyguard it was hailed as a groundbreaking move, but less than a year later she is to step down.

Just last week, Meghan Markle wowed onlookers while visiting one of her new charities, Smart Works, in a trench coat and tight black dress that showed off the pregnant Duchesses belly.

Ms Markle had already lost her personal assistant Melissa Touabti, 39, in December and private secretary Samantha Cohen, 49, also left in November.

Meghan's bodyguard was not named in The Times for security reasons, though she accompanied Meghan throughout her tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand last October.

The bodyguard's name has not been identified, but insiders claimed that she is leaving the police force entirely.

It is understood that her Royal Protection Officer was anxious that Meghan wanted to be 'one of the people'.

Following the birth of their firstborn child, Meghan and Harry will move to Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle which is now being refurbished.

Her outgoing bodyguard, an unnamed Scotland Yard inspector, was the first woman to hold such a key role in keeping the British royals safe, according to the Sunday Times UK, which first reported on her departure.
