The app will be available to download in the spring of 2019.

For Aetna customers that sign up for the program, Aetna will provide a free Apple Watch that can be earned back over the 24-month period.

Attain will provide Aetna members using an Apple Watch personalized health goals and recommendations as well as the ability to track their daily activity levels, the companies said Tuesday.

The app - christened "Attain" - is yet another example of an insurer pursuing a creative means to keep their members healthy, out of hospitals and safely at home, especially as they age and develop more complex medical needs.

Manchester United offer Juan Mata new one-year deal
Mata has made four appearances under Solskjaer so far, scoring the opening goal against Reading in the third round of the FA Cup. Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata , whose contract runs out in the summer.

The companies have been working together on Attain since 2016 and say it's the first app of its kind - it can blend people's health histories with Apple Watch data to personalize suggestions.

Since then, the Watch has been augmented with health-centric features such as an ECG monitor, and more private payers have integrated the wearable device into their chronic disease management and wellness programming. In short, you can expect a free Apple Watch as long as you're taking care of yourself. Through analytics and machine learning, the collaboration will lead to new features for Attain, offering more personalized recommendations created to give greater context and decrease barriers to health care, the insurer said.

"Alternatively, points can be used to redeem things like corporate gift cards".

Attain combines a person's health history with his or her Apple Watch activity to create personalized goals. "As we learn over time, the goal is to make more customized recommendations that will help members accomplish their goals and live healthier lives", Apple COO Jeff Williams said in a statement. Members don't necessarily have to own an Apple Watch at the start to participate, and they can even earn one through the program.

Aetna noted that Attain is "completely voluntary program", where participants determine what information they want to share and can discontinue using Attain at any time.

Health insurance providers certainly have an incentive to improve their customers' overall health, as that could reduce the number of claims they have to pay out over long term. Information from this program will not be used for underwriting, premium or coverage decisions. Eventually, the company hopes to make it available to all of its 22.1 million members.

As part of the effort, CVS is building "health hubs" that will be staffed with a "care concierge", who might help individuals understand how their health insurance works or help them use health and wellness devices and technology. CVS said 90% of participants reported a "health benefit" but did not elaborate on whether they saw improved health outcomes.
