Battlefield V sales fall short of EA's expectations

In a release to investors, EA says it didn't perform to expectations and that it didn't execute on strategies like it expected to, especially compared to what has happened elsewhere in the video game industry.

Electronic Arts is disappointed in the third quarter of its 2019 fiscal year.

While a lot of players are having fun with Battlefield V, it seems DICE's latest game isn't doing as well as its publisher, Electronic Arts (EA), was hoping it would do commercially.

"We think (postponing the Battlefield launch) was the right decision, but it put us in the middle of a very discounted holiday season", EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen said in an interview. The battle royale Firestorm mode will be added in March, which will most certainly give it a boost.

EA has many months of new content planned for Battlefield 5 over time, including new maps, customisation items, the battle royale mode, and more. According to a statement from EA, these lower sales are a result of the company's "difficult window" regarding its launch, and "prioritizing the single-player campaign over battle royale".

EA has had an uncharacteristically bad Christmas, with Battlefield underperforming and Federation Internationale de Football Association sales falling flat on previous years.
