The 21 Savage arrest by ICE authorities has certainly renewed the conversation around immigrants.

According to TMZ, Jay-Z said the arrest and detention of the rapper is "an absolute travesty" and points out that his US Visa application has been pending for years.

21 Savage will likely have to sit out of the Grammy Awards this weekend thanks to his arrest by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency on Sunday.

The rapper, real name Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was deported back to his home country on Monday after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials discovered he had been living in the USA illegally for a number of years.

New York-based immigration lawyer Alex Spiro, who Jay-Z's entertainment company Roc Nation hired to assist with the case, said the legal team will "not stop" until the rapper is released.

According to three police reports obtained by TMZ, 21 Savage was pulled over by Atlanta police on Sunday (February 3rd) after driving across a sidewalk in an attempt to get onto another street. Mr. Abraham-Joseph arrived legally in the United States at the age of 7 under an H-4 visa.

Per the police reports, three cars were allegedly involved in the arrest, including one driven by rapper Young Nudy, and another by Kalil Smith, who allegedly drove with an M4 rifle in the floorboard with the muzzle pointed in the direction of the officer.

'In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately, ' Jay-Z said. He was convicted of drugs charges in 2014.

21 Savage is a major figure in Atlanta's vibrant rap scene.

They are calling for his release from custody - citing his strong familial links within America as proof that he is not a flight risk or danger to the community - in order to put put together the defence for his case, which is due to be heard in federal immigration courts.

Immigration attorney Charles Kuck said the rapper came to the United States legally.

The rapper has applied for a U-visa, which is pending with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Kuck said. It has reportedly been pending for four years.
