UEFA head Ceferin promises bright future in new four-year term

Aleksander Ceferin was re-elected on Thursday as the UEFA president for a second 4-year term.

The 51-year-old Slovenian president of the European governing football body was a sole candidate running in the election, which was held during the 43rd Ordinary UEFA Congress in Italy's Rome.

The Slovenian lawyer took over two-and-a-half years ago from disgraced predecessor Michel Platini.

Ceferin also urged global soccer body Federation Internationale de Football Association to listen to UEFA's reasons for opposing the global soccer body's current plans for two new competitions, a global Nations League and 24-team Club World Cup. We must continue to develop.

China condemns Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to disputed region
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Chinese side was aware of India's sensibilities regarding the issue. In Nov 2017, China had attacked President Ram Nath Kovind over his visit to north-eastern state.

"With VAR we prepared a meeting with all the coaches from Champions League teams in Frankfurt on Monday and only five came", Ceferin said. "It can only be done if we work together, if we discuss, if we debate", he said.

"As the media revealed in November, it seems that, shortly before and in the months following my election, a handful of big European clubs were considering a breakaway", continued Ceferin.

Ceferin excused Liverpool from attending as they were playing a Premier League match at West Ham on Monday, which ended 1-1 at London Stadium.

The Frenchman is still suspended until October this year when he will complete a four-year ban from all football-related activities following the corruption scandal that also brought down then-FIFA chief Sepp Blatter.

Uefa has now responded by agreeing a new "memorandum of understanding" with the European Club Association, expiring in 2024.

"Not only because of the record (of PSG) in terms of Financial Fair Play, but also because (Al-Khelaifi) is president of beIN Sports, one of the main holders of television rights of UEFA", added the president of La Liga.

Ceferin said UEFA would "rigorously defend" their members' concerns over the global calendar, backed by Andrea Agnelli, president of Italian champions Juventus and the ECA, with whom UEFA signed an agreement on Wednesday. "I am the president of UEFA, a UEFA that can be proud of its past and confident about the future".
