Michelle Obama shares text exchange with mom from Grammys night

Obama appeared on stage with Jada Pinkett Smith, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez to talk about the impact music had had on her life.

Last night, Obama shared a amusing thread of text messages from her mother, in which the 81-year-old Marian Shields poked fun at her daughter's surprise appearance at the Grammys on Sunday night.

Michelle took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a amusing text exchange between herself and her mother, Marian Shields Robinson, following her GRAMMY appearance. Obama had received a standing ovation opening Sunday's awards show with Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett Smith. Mum replied she saw it and then asked if her daughter had met "any of the real stars" on the night.

The playful conversation began with Robinson referring to her daughter's appearance at Sunday's Grammy Awards - and making a Peak Mom suggestion that she was miffed at not getting a heads-up that Obama would be on TV.

Obama replied, her trailing off familiar to any child who ever tried to have a diplomatic exchange with a parent.

"No you did not", her mother responded. She is one of the most genuine and thoughtful people I know-there's no one better to help us all celebrate the unifying power of music!

Despite the friendly banter between Obama and her mother, the two actually have a very close relationship, as Robinson revealed in her first every televised interview past year.
