Robinson agreed with Lopez and stood by Grammy organisers who selected the Latina star to perform, calling the backlash "stupid". As TooFab noted, not only is Lopez not black but her own music style is nothing like Motown's sound.

One person did stand up for the decision: Smokey Robinson.

So why was she selected to deliver a performance honoring a legendary label that's largely featured black artists?
