Feinstein Unveils Green Deal Alternative After Kid Confrontation

The California senator Dianne Feinstein is facing criticism over a video of her response to a group of children and teenagers asking her to support the Green New Deal.

Eventually, having exhausted of arguing with the group, Feinstein told one of them "Well, you know better than I do. I know what I've been doing", Feinstein responds.

Republicans have mocked the Green New Deal as a progressive pipedream that would drive the economy off a cliff and lead to a huge tax increase, calling it evidence of the creep of socialism in the Democratic party.

During the meeting, Feinstein expressed skepticism about the Green New Deal, a landmark resolution that aims to dramatically cut global carbon emissions and human-caused greenhouse gasses.

Instead, Feinstein said she supported an alternate plan.

US Senator Dianne Feinstein is under fire after video shows her arguing with children who visited her office in hopes of swaying her vote on climate change legislation.

Sen. Feinstein said she does not respond to ultimatums. "You come in here and say, it has to my way or the highway".

Later, a young woman stresses the need for a climate plan with "bold, transformative action", and Feinstein replies, "Well, you know better than I do".

To that, Feinstein said: "The U.S. government does a lot of things with the money, and they're important things, and you just can't go in and say, OK, we're going to take hundreds of millions from here, and hundreds of millions from there". So maybe, you should listen a little bit.

The senator told the children that "we have our own Green New Deal".

Tom Nichols tweeted: "I know this is bad retail politics, but man, I love seeing Feinstein telling off a bunch of kids - and I'm not even kidding".

"But we have come to a point where our Earth is dying, and it is literally a pricey and ambitious plan that is needed to deal with the magnitude of that issue", a 16-year-old student replied.

The 15-minute video of the impromptu Friday meeting captures the students and Feinstein debating the merits of the Green New Deal, an ambitious Democrat plan to shift the USA economy from fossil fuels to renewable sources such as wind and solar power. "I have been and remain committed to doing everything I can to enact real, meaningful climate change legislation", she said in the statement.

"Well, you didn't vote for me", the senator says. She is clearly out of touch with her constituents and I for one will not forget this incident next election!
