New 'Orphan Black' Series in Works at AMC

AMC is ready to clone Orphan Black.

Sources stressed, however, that this would not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world.

While original creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson are not involved in the new series at this time, that could conceivably change as development continues. "The producers are now seeking a writer for the project and are looking to bring in multiple people to pitch different takes on what the show could be".

According to Variety, the network is now in the process of developing a new series based in the world of the BBC sci-fi drama.

AMC and Temple Street declined to comment. Each of its five seasons were showered with accolades by critics; Maslany scored well-deserved Emmy nominations for her lead performance no fewer than three times, taking home the trophy in 2016.

Then there's the issue of the starring cast.

FDA removes restrictions on genetically modified salmon
The salmon have been modified with DNA from other species of fish to allow them to grow roughly twice as fast as regular salmon. According to the FDA , it complied with the guideline by blocking modified salmon from entering the U.S.

There's also the question of why AMC is developing this series rather than BBC America, which aired the original in the US from 2013 to 2017.

Reactions to the news have been mixed, with many fans demanding that any future Orphan Black activity be strictly Tatiana Maslany-focused or they can keep it. When AMC acquired the rights is an unknown, since the series aired on BBC America - but this could be part of a new simulcast relationship like that between AMC and BBC America with the second season of Killing Eve (BBC America is co-owned by AMC Networks).

Nothing solid is out there yet about Orphan Black's new spin-off, but check back here for updates.
