NZ measles outbreak continues to spread

Reported cases of mumps have been climbing in numbers at local schools and universities recently, and parents may be nervous.

While children in OH schools are "required" to get vaccinations, the state is one of just 17 where law allows both "philosophical" and religious exceptions, allowing parents to opt out of vaccinations for their children.

Doctors are treating unimmunised New Zealanders in carparks and outdoor areas in an attempt to reduce the spread of measles, as the number of confirmed cases of the contagious disease rose to 25. Health officials recommend you call ahead to make sure locations have the vaccinations and staffing available to immunize you. The first dose is typically received by the children at the time when they turn 15 months old and the second dose is generally given to them when they reach the age of 4 years.

Relatives of 25 of the victims had been contacted, Macharia said, and taking care of their welfare was of utmost importance. GebreMariam said they have not yet determined the cause of the crash. "They are in shock like we are".

"The major risk factor for measles is being unvaccinated if people haven't had the disease".

"Another huge problem, however, is that a large proportion of people become infectious and spread the virus before they develop signs, so they present a risk to others without them or their caregivers knowing it". However, there is still cause for vaccination. "We had ten states that originally had measles cases this year".

"I saw some really overwhelming evidence that was in defense of vaccines and when I turned 18, I pursued that route", Lindenberger said. As of the early 2000's, Measles was thought to have been eradicated from the United States, but in recent years as people are less concerned about the disease some people are opting out of the vaccine, which leads to pockets of the country where the disease can re-appear and spread rapidly.

Asked about the possibility that Kim was gearing up for more rocket launches, Trump touted his relationship with Kim. He said this does not mean the US position has hardened.

Even though the vaccine is highly effective, globally around 110,000 people died from measles in 2017, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Health experts are warning that for everyone in Canterbury to be protected against measles, 95 percent of people would need to be fully immunised against it.
