Why Injured Nadal may not play against Roger Federer in Indian Wells

Tennis icons Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will play out the 39th episode of their legendary rivalry in California as they meet in the semi finals of the Indian Wells Masters on Saturday - their first meeting on court since 2017.

The world number two received treatment to the knee during his gruelling quarter-final win over Russia's Karen Khachanov on Friday.

The Swiss great has won the last five in the series, but says that's of little significance now that it has been nearly a year and a half since their last meeting in the Shanghai Masters final in October 2017.

Nadal, too, says the contrast in styles, coupled with the pair's sheer longevity, makes every meeting something to treasure.

"Not that I didn't expect it, but it definitely went better than I thought it would".
