Apple Inc on Monday invited media to a March 25 event at the Steve Jobs Theater on its campus in Cupertino, California, where it is expected to launch a television and video service. Apple usually launches products and services in the month period after the event. The event will be at 10:00 AM Pacific, 1:00 PM Eastern, so mark your calendars.

However, some reports have also speculated that no new devices will be revealed at the event with Apple using the keynote to release a new movie streaming service and premium news subscription. Apple's new shows are planned to be released "later in the year at the earliest", and it's possible that the company is also holding back some content that's already ready in order to release it on the more typical fall schedule that TV audiences have become accustomed to.

It's been three years since the Apple video service rumour mill started churning, but it looks like the Netflix rival could now be just around the corner. But it's been a while since one of these has focused largely on services, with a 2015 Apple Music event perhaps the best recent example. Further, neither of the popular media services likely feel that they need Apple to attract or retain subscribers.

"In the meantime, Apple is desperately working to fill out its content library ahead of launch, going so far as to "[offer] concessions to get deals done by a Friday deadline". It seems like this will be relaunched as part of the News subscription, similar to how Beats Music was the basis for Apple Music.
